Different Types of Electric Vehicle Sockets

There are several types of electric vehicle (EV) charging sockets, each with its own unique design and function.

Here are the different types of electric vehicle charging socket types:

J1772 Charging Socket:

The J1772 charging socket is a type of Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging socket that is commonly used in North America. It is compatible with most EVs that are sold in the region, including the Chevrolet Bolt, Nissan Leaf, and Tesla Model S.

CCS Charging Socket:

The CCS (Combined Charging System) charging socket is a type of Level 2 and Level 3 charging socket that is commonly used in Europe and Asia. It has both AC and DC charging capabilities and is compatible with most European and Asian EVs.

CHAdeMO Charging Socket:

The CHAdeMO charging socket is a type of Level 3 DC Fast Charging socket that is commonly used in Asia. It is not compatible with the J1772 or CCS charging sockets and is typically only used by Asian EVs such as the Nissan LEAF.

Tesla Charging Socket:

The Tesla charging socket is a proprietary charging socket that is only used by Tesla EVs. It is a type of Level 2 and Level 3 charging socket and is compatible with Tesla Supercharger stations, which are fast-charging stations specifically designed for Tesla vehicles.

It is important to note that different EVs may have different types of charging sockets, and not all charging sockets are compatible with all vehicles. When selecting an EV, it is important to consider the types of charging sockets available and how they fit with your charging needs.
